Site Survey *
Implementation of wired and/or
wireless LAN requires the performing a site survey.
Site
Survey must accurately record, analyze and document the
performance of the existing network.
Site surveys for
wired and wireless LAN are similar and the complexity of the
Survey depends upon the complexity of the proposed network.
Site Survey must
provide all necessary information needed to ensure that proposed
network is properly designed, optimized, that includes the
most advances network security solutions, addresses and managed
customer's special applications and improves bandwidth performance
and traffic flow of the network.
The
Site Survey should
review and determine the following:
1. All technical details and configurations
of the existing wired LAN (WLAN) equipment like: routers,
bridges, hubs, and workstations, as well as the network cabling
system.
2. The new network system's configuration
and performance objectives.
3. Costs analysis of proposed network design
including all recommendations and configurations in compliance
with the Customer's requirements and goals.
4. Equipment quantity, placement recommendations
for wireless equipment, product recommendations, power considerations,
and wiring requirements.
5. Network redundancy - in order to maximize
the performance and reliability of the new network.
6. All various wireless LAN security processes,
protocols and encryption enhancements used within WLAN industry.
The Site
Survey should also review and determine the following:
1. Type of
Equipment necessary for the new network including spare parts
for redundancy.
2. Power considerations including Battery Back-up Units -
UPS (Universal Power Supply)
3. Wiring and Wireless requirements including Patch Panels,
Distribution's Panels, Print Servers and all other additional
devices required by the proposed network.
